OUR STORY
Erected in 1877, the Great Western Hotel has a big history behind it. First built as a two-floor hotel, the top story was destroyed in a fire in 1976 leaving only a single floor that could be rehabilitated and, after many renovations, it is what we call home today.
The Downie family came to Hughenden in 2006 in search for a new place to call home and since then, has been operating both the Great Western Hotel and the Royal Hotel focusing on providing excellent hospitality services to its customers and supporting the local community. Management and staff aim to satisfy our wide range of customers by delivering the best service possible in accommodation, quality meals and entertainment. We are proud of having become the meeting point of the region townies and also the place-to-go by travellers who want to enjoy a true Outback welcoming.
