Porcupine Gorge

Visiting the Porcupine Gorge National Park is a must while in the area. Located just 74km north of Hughenden, this amazing spot boasts spectacular views, bushwalking, bird watching, swimming and splendid photography opportunities.

Travel north and be amazed at the depth of the volcanic rock cliff faces, the brilliantly coloured rocks and the cool shady pools of what is known as Australia’s Little Grand Canyon.

Follow the Kennedy Development Road for 60km to reach the turn-off for the Lookout to observe the depth and magnitude of the gorge. Then, follow the Mount Emu Plains Road to reach the Pyramid camping and day-use areas.

There, you can take the 2km return hike down to the stunning gorge where you can swim, have a picnic and enjoy the beautiful place.

If you want to spend the night at the campground at the top of the gorge you must prebook it at Flinders Discovery Centre, by phoning 13 7468 or online at www.qld.gov.au/camping

Campers should take their own water and be fully self-sufficient as there are no facilities available apart from composting toilets.

While the Kennedy Developmental Road is fully sealed till the Gorge, if travelling beyond the park, further north to Blackbraes National Park or the Lynd Junction, the road is unsealed in some sections.
